<watadoo>, I read that post fast and thought
you'd bought a software package called "Swampthing"
to do your road managing.

Hey, it might work. You could wire it up to display the right
thing to say in any situation on the inside of your mirror shades.

But it would require a big fan to cool it, something way bigger than
what I usually stuff in my pants.

David,

I think I covered most of the Kemp stories in the book. Now I can
tell you Kemp stories AFTER the book. Like the time Louie and I went
to the Chabad telethon with Kinky. But Louie and I were pals by then
so there was no real drama.

To all,

Thanks for all the interest. It's been fun. I'll poke in here from
time to time the next few days so if you want to know anything else,
fire away!

Ratso, Is there any bio of Kinky which you can recommend? I've only
found things which include him as a supporting player.

Indeed! It's been swell having both of you here, Ratso and Michael! In
fact, I hope you both might find time to poke around other parts of the
Well and see if you dig it. Either or both of you would be welcome
permanent additions to this wacky li'l 'hood.

BTW, my only, very indirect, personal experience regarding Lou Kemp came
in the form of the enormous smoked Whitefish that Lou would annually
send from Alaska to the offices of Bill Graham Presents during the eight
years I worked there, and which Bill would ceremoniously lay out in the
company kitchen for all the employees to enjoy. Needless to say that Lou
Kemp, in my experience, is a frickin' saint! ;-)

We were the lucky reciepients of Kemp's smoked fish largesse on that

fish for breakfast!

Really enjoying the book. A great read.

Maybe you covered this and I missed it. How did Mick Ronson come to be on
this tour?

It takes a friend to make you laugh
        A smack on the back
Someone who knows right where you're at
A friend in town who just heard you're around
And came by to see how you're getting along

To sashkenaz: there is no, nor has there been, a bio of Kinky.
But if you read his mystery novels, you get a very accurate -- albeit
fictionalized -- self-portrait of the real Kinkster.
Self-portrait. Cannot escape those Dylan refs. I feel like
Weberman...

The book is excellent, Mr. Sloman.

Someone mentioned Stew. Are there other lyricists out there that Dylan
likes? Beck springs to mind, or (less likely) Farrell, KRS-ONE, or Yauch.

Of course, there have been so few lyricists worth paying attention to in
the last 20 years, I'd be surprised if Dylan listens to any of it. And 90%
is hip-hop. (Does Dylan listen to hip-hop?)

Hello again,

Ronson coming along was Neuwirth's doing. He got friendly with Ronson
and Ian Hunter.
There's a new bio of Kinky Friedman that's about to be released. Go
to Kinky's web page www.kinkyfriedman.com for more details.

Kinky's garbage should be quarantined.

I remember reading somewhere that Dylan liked Nick Cave's work a lot.
