no. fabulous, but not ACCIDENTALLY hideous and ironic.

what do you guys think about the trend i just read about in some design
mag about NOT hiding tvs? used to be you NEVER saw them in decor mag
layouts and you were supposed to either not have one or hide it in an
armoire. do you approve of hanging a flat-screen tv on a wall, or just
having a normal tv on a stand (funky stand? simple and minimalist) or
hiding it in a piece of furniture?

now that tvs are actually cool looking, I'm all for it. We're doing a
lot of plasma screen tvs for clients right now, but we're framing them
like you would an oil painting or mirror (we've also been using a
special glass that let's you view the screen when the tv is on, but
whewn it's off the glass is mirror like.)

There is a kind of honesty about having your tv in full view (like the
do in England.) It's all the cords, dvds and crap that goes along with
it that bothers me.

We don't keep our tvs in full view in America? Oops.

our tvs are all set into book cases--but no coy little doors to close
them off.
like randall, it's cords and attendant crap that bugs me, not the tv
itself

I think that is fine in the den. We have a 42 inch HDTV that I
absolutely HATE the looks of. Yeah, it's a breathtaking picture. I live
with an absolute audio and videophile, and I for one cannot WAIT till
we make the jump to flat screen, which will be hidden. The depth of
this monster would make a bookcase look like a dumpster. I suggested
building an outside addition to the house and having it behind doors,
but that went over like a fart in church.

o my brother in suffering!

we have giant, giant, giant speakers. have i mentioned they are GIANT?
they prevent us from having better storage solution for toys, because they
take up most of the available floor space. so the toys end up in front of
them, in the wicker baskets. i would prefer smaller speakers mounted on
teh walls and then we could have shelves and bins against the walls for
toys. but no, i scream into the void.

Marjorie, you don't have to have giant speakers anymore for giant
sound. We have this bose system with tiny cubes on the ceiling and of
course the obligatory surround system in the wall and one sub woofer on
the floor. Perhaps you could entice into a smaller more effective
system, however some audiophiles insist on room size speakers!
I suffer with thee......

poor you. I completely understand. I could arm/disarm the security
system at gunpoint. Ask me to play a DVD, SACD, DVD Audio, you might as
well shoot me. I have a Marantz in the den, which suits me fine.

The sound system in my living room has 23 separate components, give or take
a component or two. It IS the design element in that part of the room.

Not really. None of them are high-power, so there's not much that could blow
anything out of anything (except fuses). Lots of program sources (tape
machines, tuners, etc).

Yesterday morning I almost beat the sun up to do a bit of house
cleaning and "organizing." I wanted all of my chores to be done, so I
could go to the mountains and get some hiking in with my uncle and then
in the afternoon drink some good wines with my favorite auntie. It
feels good to be away for the day and come home to everything looking
perfect.

My copy of "The Organized Home" is sitting on an Italian marble top
and mahogany coffee table in a very prominent place. Nothing but the
best, you know. In fact, the book itself is covering copies of other
home decor books, like from Alexandra Stoddard and Rachel Ashwell.
Not sure how this happened but as I was dusting I noticed that a copy
of "To Kill A Mockingbird" was laying on top of "The Organized Home!"
I don't know how it got there. Honest! TKAM book has since been
removed and "The Organized Home" is once again on top.

heads up!

fab, funny, honest article by casey about the fact that she of all people
wrote a book about home organization. hyuk.

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2004/05/09/CMG6C62B4D1.DTL

made me realize i'd forgotten to ask: what piece of advice in teh book
will be most roundly ignored? (she answers this in the piece!) as well as
what is the traditional home-org advice that makes you batshit (she
answers this too!)!

fab.

My attitude got adjusted about my home organization. I decided to stay
here, sharing with a business partner to keep the expenses down.
The business partner would also live in the house, and we would run
our business from the house, at least initially. So that makes for
some interesting problems, especially dealing with all that stuff
and functional requirements at the same town, while not having a
lot of clutter.

Bravo and wildly enthusiastic applause, Casey! (Well, except for the
part about what an extremely boring parent you'd make. A fecking
SAVINGS BOND!!??)

That idea of making Outlook Contacts for your household stuff is
really original!
