Is Neil (or Julie or Lorraine) going to put that June 4 Book Expo
appearance up on "Where's Neil" that he mentioned at the end of
http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2005/04/finishing-things.asp? I
hesitate to ask at his already-backlogged FAQ box, knowing how busy he
is right now, but some New Yorkers might have missed it.

I've been meaning to say, I had no idea that Gorillaz was an imaginary
cartoon band. (My brother gave me a bunch of their MP3s once.) So
who are these people? I gave up trying to find out from their gimmicky
Flash website.

Really! Wow. The drawings do kind of have that feel, now that I
think of it.

<626> -- On second thought, I see the Expo is for book industry
people... so I guess anyone who would need to know about it already
knows it.

(Well, I'm planning a trip to Arizona the following week, and now I
don't have to make the decision whether to leave from New York or
Washington.)

That is a very cool letter at the end of
http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2005/04/jetlag-morning.asp! Neil
does have such a gift for "spark[ing] that interest for [people] to
WANT to read" -- or rekindling it, as I can attest. How extremely cool
(if not terribly surprising) to hear about his effect on that kid,
_especially_ since that first germ of inspiration happened on a night
when Neil was soldiering on through strep throat and getting his butt
kicked by some virus. I'll bet a story like this makes him feel that
it was worth it.

Incidentally, Neil, I still haven't hugged you since that time
(picture-taking arm drape notwithstanding), and I promised I would. I
shall have to make good on that next time I see you. :)

Indeed. Looking sharp there, Neil!

Slipped by (notshakespeare) and now wondering what kind of Olympic
sport would need to be invented for Neil to enter....

May I just say Squeee!!!!! Neil mentioned Thorne Smith and ANANSI BOYS
together! Squee!!!!! I have long longed to see someone head in that
particular compass direction of fantasy. Sorry. It's just that I was
completely loopy over TOPPER (and NIGHT LIFE OF THE GODS, and STRAY LAMB, and
TURNABOUT and...) in my teens.

And, while I Know that wasn't What Neil Meant when he mentioned Thorne Smith,
I am now curious as to how much booze and sex is going to show up in ANANSI
BOYS.

Least grey hair for a father of 3? *I* have more grey than he has,
darn it!

PS--Kathy Li--good to "see" you! He says there's little to no sex or
swearing in this one. When he was here a few weeks ago, he mentioned
it.

Didn't get to see him last weekend. He must have been pretty busy. I
wish I had gotten to meet Anne McCaffrey, though. I flaked and forgot
to schedule some time to go to one of the signings. I am a
chowderhead. <<wanders off, kicking self>>

That's okay. If you had met Anne McCaffrey I'd have been exceedingly
jealous of you and might have to dislike you by a microscopic little
bit.

And *I* have more greys than Neil... but then, I've a lot of grey.
Mind you this doesn't make me feel any better about the time I pointed
his out to him (I think I actually felt it when I mentally slapped
myself in the forehead about 2 seconds after it came out of my mouth).
The incident still makes me snicker in laughter and shame. I r teh

Hi, Kathy Li!!! <waves>

Hey, maybe YOU can get Neil a fountain-pen endorsement deal!

(Yer on your own with the island, Neil, but you do have free rent on a
writing cottage in Mt. Airy for about another year. Or more,
depending on things.)

> Most youthful looking father category.

Yes, I suppose my father is ready to pass on the mantle at this point.

Dang, where was that video clip of a choral group doing video game
themes a capella? Well, I'm sure at least 50 people have sent it to
Neil by now....

Not sure if I've seen that one, but it sounds par for the course of
the UC Men's Octet. What choral group is it?

In other news, since I'm sharing this everywhere else:
