Rather like this: http://images.burningman.com/index.cgi?image=972

If you Google "Burning Man" Thunderdome you'll get a slew of these
images.

I lead a very, very boring life. Twirling fires and thunderdomes.
*le sigh*

I got "Flights" with stories by Larry Niven, Gene Wolfe and Neil
Gaiman. I haven't started it yet, but it promises.

I'm still searching for the sci-fi book of short stories that I can't
remember the title and author for. Maybe if I offered a reward? Yes,
it's eating at me that badly.

Every year at Burning Man they erect a Thunderdome from PVC pipes.
Then they proceed to have fights with boffer weapons.

Google led me back to Miss Mousey's own page:

Steel pipe - no way PVC. It is common for ovber a hundred people to be
climbing on the dome.

Magnolias are starting to bloom here. Alas, there are not so many of
them as used to be. They've been replaced by easier to keep and less
messy trees. Sigh. If I ever buy a place of my own and the yard is
empty, I think I'll put in Magnolia trees.

I love that I can be away from the computer for a few days to study
and come back to several questions for me that have already been
answered. :)

Yeah, steel... and heavy (and very painful when you drop one on your
foot - not that I'd know that from experience ;P). Our first one was
also steel, but broke under the pressure of a big 300+# idiot who
decided jumping up and down on one of our weaker struts was a good
idea. This one weighs nearly twice as much. Is great fun too. :) The
night was good, and also means I won't have to slave at another
fundraiser this year!

As for spring - ORCHIDS! I have orchids being all bloomy at me. :) I
hearts the orchids.

Orchids. I always smile when I watch a certain Sherlock Holmes mystery
on dvd. The Creeping Man. The professor gives his fiance orchids and
she does not like them. Unwholesome she calls them. This was back when
people thought they were parasites which lived off the trees.

Heh.

I've got a calendar at home with photos of orchids on a black
background. I think the guy who does them is famous, if you know
photographers. Perhaps he is the Anne Geddes of flowers.

If you like orchids, you may agree that this is gorgeous:

Well, except for Commencement Day itself, as I will be singing in
Rockville at 2:30.

But then again, if Mike decides he wants to spend the afternoon
running around with his friends one last time and the rest of you are
at loose ends, come on up! It's a free chamber concert, and I think
there will be wine and cheese.

Lilacs for me. That is the most wonderful smell.....ever, really.
they are blooming here at the moment, because apparently Spring has
skipped Chicago.

That's OK, because just like swallows in Capistrano, U2 has come back
to The City. My The City. Debbers and I saw them last night. Our
seats were crap. It did not matter. They are still amazing. I slept
about 3 hours and came in to school wearing my concert T. I've had the
CD cranked in my room all day. <<sigh>>

Some day I shall win the lotto and follow that band to the end of the
planet. It must be amazing to get to see them several times on a tour.
The most I've ever done is 2 per tour. Some day......

Must wait 'til next Friday to buy big shiny Neil book, but I went to
Border's and looked at it. It's prrrrriiiiiddddddddyyyyyy. Soon.

And I was best person at a gay wedding in Canada this week. It was
wonderful! One of my best friends in the world married his partner,
and it was beautiful. I'm going to Baton Rouge over Memorial Day
weekend to help them celebrate with their family and friends. Yay!

Quick one after the first weekend of the Bienal (and sparing you the
long and sad data on how the book business is going down the drain
here). It's always a thrill to be surrounded by so many books (special
mention to the new translation of "1001 Nights" straight from the
original texts), but this time I had a mission. One of my fellow FGs
asked for a couple of copies of the deluxe Sandman edition (I believe
Mr. Gaiman mentioned it in his blog). It's quite lovely, with brilliant
pages and a new intro by Mr. Gaiman (which I should translate before I
mail the book) which will make Brazilians very happy indeed.

I had to ask the editor from Conrad when, if ever, would they bring
Mr. Gaiman back to Brazil and I heard that the invitation had been made
through his agent for the next Bienal. I was surprised and will not
tell the dedicated fans from the comic store until some sort of
confirmation happens. These are the same people who asked me not to
wash my hands if I happen to shake hands with Mr. Gaiman. Which, by the
way, is an ancient Persian custom. They were the only of the old
civilisations who shaked hands as salutation.

Anyway. Tired now, but here is the scan of the cover.

Georgia, is that the Rio bookfair thing? I ddn't know that I'd been
invited back. (The way things are looking I may wind up not getting to
go anywhere at all in 2006, so do not get hopes up.) I loved seeing
that cover, though. (Migod I looked so YOUNG.)

Not quite sure what'll be happening in DC, Christy, although I would
put money on me spending most of the time in a hotel room copy-editing
ANANSI BOYS...

Good to hear from you, Neil! I was too tired to post when I saw this
the other night, but it did make me smile. And I am *very* glad you're
feeling better. (Hope Lorraine is, too.)

So Mike graduated last night? I thought it was tomorrow. Please pass
along my congratulations (and say hi to Maddy).

What -- wait, are you saying that's YOU as Dream on that cover? Wow.
Mentally adding "art model" to your long, curling résumé....
