They should jettison her and get someone else then. I have NO patience
for Diva Tantrums.

She's holding up the movie. I especially have no patience with that.

Can't wait to see John Malkovitch do this. Saw Being JM not too long
ago. Horrifyingly spooky. Then when you step outside the movie and
realize JOHN was doing all that. Dang. He's good.

That whole story about Angelina was nonsense and made up from start to
finish (I thought it was hilarious that they had her walking off stage
and holding up production a week before she was due to start, let
alone having her apparently filming scenes with lots of actors who had
already wrapped).

It doesn't work like that. I've seen some footage at the studio,
during my 2 days out there, and it was fascinating. And the
performances were really strong. But I have no idea what it'll become
once it's turned into data and rebuilt.

I saw Spider on the Metro the other evening. At least I like to think
so. He was a tall, slender, very attractive young African-American
man in a natty black-and-white suit, with a black hat. I don't
remember if it was a fedora or what, but it was pretty sharp. (Nobody
wears hats anymore, so when men do, it tends to make them look
extra-cool.) I didn't want to stare at a stranger on the subway, so I
mostly gathered my data through sidelong glances, but I sure wouldn't
have minded looking longer!

Anyway, I'm now working from a client site where I can't really post
to messageboards. (Wouldn't want anybody mistaking my ramblings for
the opinions of SAIC, now would we?) I am following along silently,
though, and will try to post from home or a wireless hotspot when I
can.

Now for some comments I wanted to make, but couldn't:

<1025> - Me, I like going to the Web site and making Helena fart
sparkles.

The more I think about it, the more I'd like to see _MirrorMask_
again. I hope it goes wide; if not, I'm sure I'll be getting the DVD.

The guy (Desson Thomson?) who reviewed it in the _Washington Post_
last week seemed to hate it, though. He was so busy complaining about
the story that he didn't even _mention_ the visuals. For this
particular film, I can't help but think that's a bit like going to
review a famous painting, then filling up your whole column griping
about how ugly you thought the frame was.

<1122> -- Ah, you just liked her because she said men in kilts were
sexy!

<1130> & <1131> -- _Being John Malkovich_ is one of those movies I've
wanted to see since it came out, but still haven't. Eventually....

back from the boat of doom (tm). Sorry I haven't been chatty - between
feeling like garbage and internet time onboard running $21/hour I
decided to be VERY brief in my skimming and to skip posting in general.

Have been enjoying skimming the chatter here though. :)

This is the link to my photos of the trip [with the ANANSI BOYS tour
photos all grouped together]. I should have taken more, but was a bit
busy crossing the country and finding out 5 cities in 3 weeks is
madness I tell you.

Note: Mr. Gaiman's photos didn't come out very good - the flash-less
thing was too much of a challenge for me.

From Mae V Cowdery

Each Night

Each night I wait
For Death to come
And stand beside my bed
And stoop with tender eyes
And eager lips... to kiss me.
But each night is as before
He only gazes longingly
And then goes sadly thru the door.

Tonight Death spoke
And his voice was the rush
Of bird wings thru the dark...
And I thought ... " Surely he will
Take me now" ...But he said...
"I cannnot tonight or ever...
For you are light and I am shadow
You so warm and pulsing
Would wilt and wane
And having died with my first kiss
You could not die again!"

I entreated .... "O beloved Death
Tho' I be warm and glowing
I am but the smallest star
In this blazing firmament."
"Stop! cried Death
" The very sound of your voice
Sends pain a thousand arrows
Quivering into my heart..."
Suddenly he stooped
And lifting me, held me close,
The he was gone.

Now, I know he will not come
While you are sleeping
By my side,
But his shadow casts
A silver pallor o'er your face
And I know that he is not
Far from me...

Happy birthday, Squeakinator! Sorry the cruise was not so fun. $21
an hour? Ow!

Oooooo, hamilton, that's gorgeous!

Thanks M. (my grandmother thanks you, actually) Which, what de Lint?
Haven't read many but love what I have read. Same friend who turned
me onto de Lint persuaded me to continue with Neil. I like that they
both write songs as well.

Saw MirrorMask again last night. Had the delight of watching it the
way I watched movies when I was fifteen or so. Walked in just before
they get to the library, stayed through till I got there again.

(Meanwhile, I got to tell someone that Anansi Boys
(the "sequel" to American Gods) is already out. Still haven't
received my copy for participating in the discussion. Oh, well.)

What I liked about watching it the second time, besides being closer
to the screen and alone, was seeing how the dream reflected Helena's
ordinary life. I especially liked the subtlety of it: "Close to You"
was just a phrase in the hospital. I also liked how often I jumped.
The best of everything!

Dan Guy: "...Post Mortem..." and "...Me and Eve" fight for (air)head
time. I'm not surprised, though. I still prefer David Bowie's first
American album and "Love You Till Tuesday". I will listen more
closely to "Personal Thing" as... sorbet.

"The politest answer I could muster"? What the heck is _he_ all mad
about?

Dan -- They cover "Personal Thing"? I've had the Flash Girls' version
for a couple of years, and I LOOOOOOVE that song! It may be that I'm
never more fond of Neil than when I'm listening to that song, unless
it's when I'm listening to "Banshee". Beautiful stuff. (In fact, my
next question on the AB thread will be about music. After all, the
subject did resonate with me before books ever did. Although maybe not
_that_ much longer. ;) )

Neil, if you're inclined to answer any questions from this topic at
present -- Who is Graham K. Smith, and which part of "Personal Thing"
did he write? I'm intrigued, and have been for a while.

(hamilton) -- Your grandmother's poem actually reminded me of
"Banshee." Which puts it in a pretty good class.

Well, if I think of anything else I wanted to say, I suppose it'll
have to wait till the weekend. G'night.

Grahame K Smith was someone I was in a band with, when I was at
school. He wrote a song called Love in a Limbo in 1976, and the tune of
it was in the back of my head when I wrote Personal Thing -- it's not
quite his song but it wouldn't have existed without his song. I think
he's in TV production or writing in the UK these days.
