Great fun. He is such a great singer, and I enjoyed harmonizing with him as
well as accompanying him on guitar. And then we had a whole band behind us
for a few.

Meanwhile, I had to cancel my ig outside of Albuquerque tonight because I am
stuck in Flagstaff. I-40 is closed due to wind! And there is no alternate
route taht would get me to Cedar Crest in time.

I've driven that stretch of 40. I can't imagine an alternate that
wouldn't be much worse.

The alternate route passes through my favorite country, but the travel time
was prohibitive.

They reopened I-40 at 7pm on Saturday; prediction was for high winds again
the next day, so I drove out that night and made it to Placitas at around
1:30 am. So I missed the ABQ gig, but made it to my show in Santa Fe. Two
days off, during which I did some exploring around Santa Fe, visited with
some friends, and then drove to Farmington NM for the night and then to
Torrey UT on Tuesday, by way of the Henry Mountains. Playing the Rim Rock in
Torrey tonight.

The Henries are revered by western geologists because G. K. Gilbert did some
pathbreaking geology there in the late 1800s. They're classic laccoliths.

I think you're right about that, Steve.

I spent several days in the area, lodging in Torrey (near the entrance to
Capitol Reef National Park). Had lunch in Boulder, Utah, the last town in
America to get motorized mail service. Walked into the San Rafael Reef at
Little Wild Horse Canyon:

and visited Goblin Valley, too:

<http://www.flickr.com/photos/dgans/4646397931/>

Spent a lot of time marveling at the structure of thes rocks, e.g.

Oh, and I played two outdoor gigs in this wonderland. Watched the moon come
up over Capitol Reef at the Rim Rock, and sang to the La Sal Mountains
(another laccolith) at the Desert Rocks Music Festival.

As I said elsewhere, I've played for bigger audiences and I've been paid more
to sing elsewhere, but this is the kind of tour I love: plenty of time to see
the world in between the gigs, lots of good friends and amazing sights.

I listened to recordings of three of the five shows, and I am more than
satisfied with my work. I may even release something from this tour.

Friends -

It is great to be at home after a thrilling summer on the road! I visited
some favorite festivals, hit some new states and venues, played some
wonderful house concerts, music festivals, and club gigs, and had an awesome
time at Grand Teton National Park! My deepest thanks to all who attended my
performances and to those who hosted house concerts, and to all who bought
CDs at my shows, too.

Speaking of which: I am offering a "bootleg" CD of my house concert in
Missoula, Montana (hosted by Stew and Meg Weis). These are hand-labeled CDs,
but properly mastered from a high-res digital master recording. The set list
and PayPal ordering link are here:
http://cloudsurfing.gdhour.com/archives/3620

My performance schedule is posted at http://www.dgans.com/gigs.html
CDs are available at http://www.cdaby.com/all/dgans

I am planning to stay close to home in October, and just starting to make
some plans for November. I'll be looking for house concert and other solo-
performance opportunities in the West in November, so please get in touch
ASAP if you're interested in hosting a performance.

Thank you for your kind attention and support. I hope to see you soon!

- DG

As always, I'm in the market for house concert opportunities. If you see an
open spot on my schedule in your general vicinity, let's try to make
something happen! And remember: word of mouth is pretty much all we have
these days, so if you like my music, please spread the word about these gigs
and these recordings - the free ones as well as the for-sale ones.

"Life Is a Jam" is a studio recording with me on guitar and vocals, Mark
Karan (Jemimah Puddueduck, Ratdog) on lead guitar, Mookie Siegel (David
Nelson Band) on keyboards, Joe Kyle, Jr (The Waybacks) on bass, Dave Brogan
(ALO) on drums, and Zac Matthews (Hot Buttered Rum) and Bear Kittay on
background vocals. The download package and promo CD contain three versions
of the song, each with a unique jam - a total of about 27 minutes of music
for your money! http://www.dgans.com/liaj/download - and we still have a few
copies of the limited-edition promo CD available at
http://www.dgans.com/liaj/

"Life Is a Jam/After Break" - the "A" side - is now available for download
from CDBaby for a mere 99 cents. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/DavidGans
