Welcome, Dave! On the WELL, I'd start browsing the <.activism> conference. There are a host of organizations tackling various local and national issues. Many offer various trainings, as well. This is also an area where "learning by doing" is incredibly helpful. Vonteer with a group that has people who can mentor you. I'm in the Boston area, and we are also home to a couple of Alinsky-style organizing coalitions. They also have frequent trainings and do a good job of providing increasing responsibilities as your abilities and experience grow. But, mostly, c'mon over to "activism" and talk about what you've done, what you are doing, what you are looking for.
