I hear that Martha is still in hospital in a coma. Her chances of
coming out of it are no more than 25% and if she wakes up she will be
severely brain damaged.

Meanwhile the Bhopal case continues in New York. Warren Anderson,
Union Carbide's CEO at the time of the gas explosion, has absconded.
His house in Florida is all shut up and no-one apparently knows where
he has gone.

The movie, Bhopal Express, directed by Mahesh Mathai, with a
screenplay by Piyush and Prasoon Pandey, has its first showing in New
York next week. Vasudha, you should certainly go along to this. The
movie tells the story of a newly married couple caught up in the
disaster and thus is not simply a dramatised documentary. Features fine
performances from Bashiruddin Khan and the immortal Zeenat Aman.

My best wishes to y'all.

Thanks for the update, Indra, though the news you bring about Martha is
terribly bleak.

Any NY Wellpern who want to make an excursion to the movie,
let me know.

Will look in the newspaper to find the place and time.

I am sorry about Martha and to hear she has little
chance of full recovery.

Thank you, Indra, for checking in here.

i wasn't able to find out where the film was playing.

i went on a bullitin board on the Bhopal Express WEb site
(very cool website, by the way) and found out that
what showed this week was a preview that does not seem to be
open or wasn't open to the public.

The message from the filmakers said the movie was said to be distributed
by the end of the summer.

drat.

Was a guest the other day on ex-Sex Pistol Johnny Rotten's radio show, which
is webcast (whatever that means, I can't get the bloody software to work
anyway!) They'd apparently seen this interview on the WELL. The session was
a gas. Reconvened the old team. Geno (aka Jesus Slut Fucker) took time off
from driving his cab in Oklahoma City to tell some very funny stories about
life as a convict and other Genoesque things...we also got Sathyu on from
Bhopal to talk about what's happening with the court case in New York, and
why people should try to put a spoke in the proposed merger between Union
Carbide and Dow Chemical. It all got rather frenetic and the last hour
passed for me in a semi-alcoholic daze...(I was sitting in my garden
drinking ouzo and trying to cut up a steak one-handed). Johnny R was great.
He got very fired up about the Bhopal situation and Sathyu will probably be
going back regularly as the situation hots up. (Sathyu was interviewed by
Newsweek today -- at last the issue is being discussed widely.) All in all a
thoroughly enjoyable and valuable evening. If anyone is interested, the
archive is online, marked June 10, at www.eyada.com. My thanks to John
"Rotten" Lydon, his producer Athena Kurry and all the other folks who made
it happen.

I listened to it and it was excellent!
Thanks for the pointer Indra.
:)

I even was inspired to go and see "The Filth and the Fury,"
the documentary about the Sex Pistols, yesterday. Very
interesting and serious person is that John Rotton.
Wishing well for his talk show.

I found the movie riviting. And a sad story. He *is* good
on stage. Wonderful face.

Glad he was able to help spread the info on the ongoing
Bhopal situation. Some hunderds of thousands of listeners.
Great show.

Emailed to us by Jane Johnson with a request to post here, re. Bhopal:

Mother Love...

Deep in your heart a well of sadness lies
Around your dreams, uncloaked, a living hell
You gave your precious treasure up for skies
That seemed to promise Heaven - yet, they fell
Tenderly, tenderly, the softest touch brings pain
A flash of bright-eyed laughter, a moment gone
And now you live for days when measured gain
Shall give your tears release, where rainbows shone
On cheeks now wet, now wreathed in smiles once more
....He plunges into your arms, heart beating, boy.
Your precious burden, running to your door.
Then turns as swiftly, Oh! To favourite toy...
It is a dream, the treasure now has gone
Bereft, you're left, paste on your brittle smile
Bleached bones beside a graveyard soaked in tears
Fixed, frozen-faced, taste gone, for a little while
For Union Carbide's Gas choked off the years...
The growth to manhood of your little child

Bhopal's gas disaster from Union Carbide's pesticide plant
Still no proper compensation as UK Lawyers stop the grant
So far they've had more money than the victims ever did
Though thousands died, and more are maimed, the perpetrators hid
