Sarah -- Weird you should mention Eddie Izzard. I just saw a two hour
stand-up on tv last night. That guy's pretty damn funny.

Just a quick thank you for all the wonderful music suggestions. Feel
free to keep 'em coming.

Len - would the Tammy Grimes reading be something I could find online
or in the used bins at a record store? (Screw the ball, I want this for
myself)

I was in line at the post office, watching the news crawl they have
installed, and the Scorpio horoscope came up: "KEEP TO A ROUTINE REGIMENT
TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR WORK AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE."

But I'm wondering where you'll keep the troops.

On a similar note, a fellow teacher showed me a student's paper that
referred to Enkidu as "Gilgamesh's closet friend." Well.

Of course, many of his best friends, like Jimmy Durante, called him by his
nickname, "Dinka." You've heard of Enki "Dinka" Du, haven't you?

Oh sure. The irony is that in his later years he became a rather
boring social climber and aesthete. The Sumerian Social Register
listed him as "Enkidu-- dull dandy."

e-mail from Mary Roane:

Sarah--wouldn't all that funny in one place cause some sort of rip in the
fabric of the universe? I'm not even sure Eddie & Terry could be in the
same room........

Daniel--you are so right. Was it "Dress to Kill"? Where his encore is
almost all in French? That's the only one I've seen so far, though I'm
trying to get other tapes. I saw him live here in Chicago last spring &
he was amazing. Le sange est sur le branche.....

Squeaks--a belated happy birthday to Fate. That's very cool. And I
think that bustles should make a comeback....every other fashion of the
20th century has. And they hide a multitude of sins! ;-)

The only Turkish Delight I had tried was the icky kind, so I'm glad to
know there's another kind, and it's not one of those English mysteries,
like blackcurrant (sorry, I just don't get it. I don't even really like
the currant flavored Jelly Babies, and I *love* Jelly Babies.) Though I
do have to say, the fact that the T.D. was icky explained a great deal
about Eustace.......

And on the Narnia subject --I'm afraid we may have to face the
possibility that Miss Maddy may be a budding actor. My favorite
childhood memories are of going to plays with my dad, and the theatre was
the greatest treat I could imagine. 30 years & and one MFA later, I
answer phones at a travel agency.... :p

Len--ooooooooh, I wish I could see your Dream. I'll bet it's gonna be
great.

Michaelle's Gorey ball -- well, the Goreyest song (in a Tim Burtonish
way) I've ever heard was probably Betty's NAUGHTY NICOLA song. It's on
their last album or the one before that. The Goreyest music there is
that isn't actually ballet is probably by the Bonzo Dog Doo Da Band. I
mean, I can close my eyes and see the Gorey illustrations for Hunting
Tigers Out in India...

jade -- I'm cheating this year and sending out a bit of the novel that
won't make it into the last version.

mary Roane -- and I have all the Eddie Izzard videos. Even live at the
ambassadors. They'd be useless to you unless you could view PAL format
stuff though.

Blackcurrant is one of my favourite things. I even grow the bloody
things, but nobody except me ever eats them, not even the nasty green
cutworms who descend on the redcurrant bushes in their hordes.

...

I've agreed to do an animated adaptation of the RAMAYANA for
Dreamworks.

Mary Roane - Fate squeaks a thanks. As for the bustle, as much as I'd
like to get wear out of the dress it goes with, I think I'm opting for
20's wear, as my hair is appropriate for neither era, but I have a wig
and a couple of hats that would suit a 20's-ish dress that I have. Will
have to find an excuse to wear the bustle later... when I have hair
again (or a better wig).

Neil - Thanks for the music suggestions. Now to see if I can find them
in my store tomorrow. And James was positively ecstatic about the
birthday wishes. Between that and the sushi I made for his party, I
think I'm forgiven for not mentioning it earlier.

-squeaks, looking forward to getting back in the rehearsal studio
tomorrow!

Neil~ That's very wonderful about working with Dreamworks, but I'm
still awestruck about the Henson connection above all else.
I've been wondering and haven't seen it here, but what do you think
about the SAG strike?

Squeaks, only have two words, pictures please?

Mary, I have the same kind of memory, only with my Mother and that was
a total inspiration for me. And now, I work at a casino and am
thinking it's the 5th or 6th ring of hell.

Turkish Delight, the concept alone gives me the shivers, but then
again I eat peanut butter and baloney.

Len, that was a great dip, my mother loved it and I only sort of set
the kitchen on fire. (only for a few moments)

and lastly Puck has always appealed to me, because of his tendency
towards malice. No matter what I've read, or seen, I've always thought
him to be slightly self-centered and a little vengeful.

Jinx who hopes the spell-checker worked

Linda -- Yep, "Dress to Kill", that's the one. Have to maybe get it on
tape. That French bit was good. Liked the bit about English villians and
Star Wars too.

Ramayana?

Ohh..love Roundtree's Blackcurrant jellies [which they only seem to
stock in Chinatown] and TipTree's blackcurrant jam. Yum!

Jinx - Hiya babe! Peanut butter w/baloney eh? And you're cool enough
to cop to it! *grin* Make mine a fluffernutter.

Miss Mousey - A bustle? Please don't give them any ideas..some of us
don't need to see that brought back..ifyouknowwhatimean. I'm still
intrigued that bellbottoms have morphed into "flared" or "bootcut."

Back from Japan. ^_- (Won't bother people with the details, but the
concert was great! Had fun catching up with friends and sightseeing
too.)

Found the Japanese version of Dream Hunters... will post ISBN for
interested parties when I get home. (At work right now... :P) Also, the
same publisher will be doing/have just done Neverwhere too, though I
didn't come across it.

Blackcurrants: Rowntree Blackcurrant Pastilles... and Ribena!! ....
got to get me some of that during lunch. X_X

Neil - Congrats on Ramayana! *^o^*

Neil, congratulations on the Dreamworks deal.

I saw a fantastic live, open air, ( and ten hour long,) production of
the Mahabharata here may years ago and was completely blown away by it.
I'm glad that Dreamworks is planning to expose these stories to a
wider Western audience and very pleased that they have found the right
writer to bring them to life. Just as long as you don't end up sleeping
in Salman Rushdie's spare bedroom.

On Turkish Delight, I actually have rather a fondness for Fry's
Turkish Delight, even if it is not the real thing.

And Michelle, if it will make your life simpler, you can forget
traveling to New York and let me take you to Ackland Street, St. Kilda,
(an entire street of jewish confectioners,) when you come to
Australia. They made the turkish delight that bought Edmund.

Reg(who could quote Dorothy Parker to explain his silence but will
instead just say that he has had a lot to do lately.)

all on her ownsome then. ;P. btw, cute Neil-jacket photo... busy

Mimi - Glad you had fun. Haven't been to Japan since... um... however
old I was 5 years before my grandfather died. 12? I did, however, pick
one of the two days that year that the Imperial Palace in Kyoto was
open. AMAZING!!!

squeaks, looking more and more forward to the Dreamworks project...
and getting increasingly anxious about the Gorey Ball TONITE! eep!
