Carl Loeffler was founder of Art Com/La Mamelle, Inc., an artists' organization dedicated to new art activity -- performance art, correspondence art, video art, television art, telecommunications art, artists' software. He passed away on February 5, 2001.
Carl was my mentor and close colleague during the eight years we worked together, 1983-1991. The Art Com Electronic Network, an online "artists' space" exploring the interface of contemporary art and new communications technologies, conceived by Carl and Fred Truck and developed in collaboration with Art Com staff and volunteers and many early WELL users, was perhaps the most significant project we worked on.
Tohei Mano has created an electronic memorial for Carl at http://www2.tokai.or.jp/tmano/cel/carl01.html.
