Please note: As of the year's beginning, the East Bay Square/Contra series switches halls, starting time and night. Except where noted, all dances start at 8pm.

CDS--Children's Day School, 333 Dolores St. @ 16th St., San Francisco 2nd Saturday English dance, 7:30 PM starting time!
ECV--El Cerrito Veterans' Hall, 6401 Stockton, El Cerrito New home for the East Bay Square/Contra dance, now on Sundays at 7pm
FCC--Fairfax Community Church, 2398 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Fairfax. 4th Saturday contradances

MARCH

Friday 1
Start off the month with an English dance in downtown Palo Alto at MT. Bob Fraley teaches and leads dances with music by the Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Stan and Susan Kramer).

Saturday 2
The San Francisco contradance at (that's right) SF. Series programmer Charlie Fenton calls the dances, The ContraBandits (Charlie Hancock, Kathrine Gardner, Kit Nelson, Chris Knepper) call the tunes.

Sunday 3
Special East Bay Playford Ball Preview, 2pm to 5pm, at Thousand Oaks Baptist Church, 1821 Catalina at Colusa (just off Solano near the Albany-Berkeley border). A chance to go through most of the dances on the program for this year's
Playford Ball. Alisa Dodson and Cynthia Stenger will lead you through all the more complex dances. Perfect for getting a feel for the dances a month before the ball. Music provided by Avis Minger and Craig Johnson.

Wednesday 6
The first Wednesday East Bay contra at NFM. Erik Hoffman calls to the hot southern tunes of Suzy Thompson, Josephine Davis, & Maxine Gerber.

Down in San José, the first Wednesday English dance at SJS. Bob Fraley leads dances to music by Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Stan and Susan Kramer, Vaughn Wolff).

Friday 8
The second Friday East Bay contra at FIN ... with caller Kirston Koths and music by The ContraBandits (Chris Knepper, Kathrine Gardner, Kit Nelson and Charlie Hancock).

Saturday 9
Two dances at PA: The second Saturday family dance, starting at 5pm with a potluck dinner at 6:30. Bob Fraley and Joyce Uggla teach dances for all the ages...

Following that at PA will be the Palo Alto contra, with Eric Black calling and music by Jody Stecher, Kate Brislin and friends.

Finally, in San Francisco at 7:30pm, it's the second Saturday English dance, with Cynthia Stenger leading dances with music by Bangers and Mash (Susan Kramer, David Strong, Stanley Kramer and Craig Johnson).

Sunday 10
Jim Saxe leads the 2nd Sunday Square and Contradance at ECV, starting at 7pm. Music will be by The Acme String Ensemble (Michael Harmon, Chris Carney, & Steve Wharton).

Wednesday 13
The 2nd Wednesday East Bay English dance at NFM, with Alisa Dodson and Anise Feldman teaching dances, and music by Craig Johnson, David Strong, & Dick Bagwell.

Friday 15
The starting day of BACDS' Spring Weekend at Monte Toyon, which runs through 4pm Sunday. The camp features both English and contradance, and you should
check the separate webpage for details on the superb staff and lodgings.

Third Friday Palo Alto English dance at MT. Bob Fraley calls with music by the Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Stanley Kramer, Ruth Anne Fraley and Susan Kramer).

Saturday 16
The San Francisco contra at SF. Los Angeles dynamo Leda Shapiro (famed for getting in more dances per hour than almost anyone in California) calls and music by Chris Knepper, Rebecca King, Steve Shapiro (also from Los Angeles)

Sunday 17
BACDS' Spring Weekend winds down today. But even if you missed it, you can catch staff members Steve Zakon-Anderson and Nightingale at CPDES Hall in Santa Cruz, 216 Evergreen, starting at 7:30pm.

Wednesday 20
Third Wednesday East Bay contra at NFM. Jim Saxe calls, with music by Robin Flower, Libby McLaren, & Erik Hoffman

San José English dance at SJS. Jody McGeen, fresh from teaching at Monte Toyon, calls to the music of Greenwich Mean Time (Kay Thorne, Vaughn Wolff, Susan and Stanley Kramer).

Friday 22
The fourth Friday contra in SF, featuring Erik Hoffman calling the dances and The CrackerJacks (Chuck Aronson, Chris Lewis, Sylvia Herold and Paul Kotapish).

Saturday 23
The Palo Alto Contradance at PA, featuring Eric Black calling. The Hillbillies from Mars, though listed on our printed calendar, can't make it, so the music will be by Kathrine Gardner, Chris Knepper and Craig Johnson.

The fourth Saturday Fairfax contra at FCC features Stuart Moody calling with music by dotGals (Susan Sullivan, Karen Warrick, Kathy Hirsh & Adam Cavan).

The East Bay experienced English countrydance is held at NFM: Alisa Dodson calls to the music of Charlie Hancock, Allen Dodson, and Anise Feldman.

Sunday 24
The fourth Sunday East Bay square and contradance at 7pm at ECV. David Newitt will call, band to be determined...

Wednesday 27
East Bay English dance at NFM. David Newitt calls and teaches dances, with music by ContraBandit members Charlie Hancock, Kathrine Gardner, and Kit Nelson.

Friday 29
Palo Alto English dance at MT, with Bob Fraley and the Nonesuch Country Dance Players (Ruth Anne Fraley, Susan and Stan Kramer).

Special preview and final practice for the Playford Ball on the following night at the Greek Orthodox Church in Belmont, corner of Alameda de las Pulgas and Ralston. All the dances on the ball program will be walked through.

Saturday 30
The
1996 Playford Ball at the Scottish Rite Temple in Oakland. BACDS' annual English country ball, with exquisite music, fine foods and gracious company. You must be registered for this event by Wednesday, March 27, so check that link now!

There's also hot contradancing on this fifth Saturday in Palo Alto at PA. Eric Black calls (and walks through) the dances, with music by Sidesaddle (Lee Anne Welch, Jerry Ashford, Kim Elking, Beth McNamara, & Bob Smith).
