Caydance was not convinced that the object was of no value. The protruding scroll was a George Maciunas hallmark, but the object as a whole did not look like Maciunas' work. Maciunas was dead. But, she knew a collector in Massachusetts whose collection centered on his work. She made a note to contact Jean Brown.

If she had to guess who made it, she would have said Mackie Alarie. Lately there had been a resurgence of interest in Alarie's work, but she had not seen him for several years. Rumor was that he had moved to Mexico. No one knew where in Mexico. After what had happened in the Redwood forest, she was not anxious to find him.

studio icon The missing key was problematical. She began to worry about what might be inside. Picking it up, shaking it very gently had not revealed anything heavy -- such as a bomb or a missing body part -- but nevertheless Caydance wasn't comfortable with the idea of searching for the key.
