“Now we come to Jay DeFeo's The Rose, an enormous painting in which the paint is so thick that it appears to be sculpture. The Rose is currently in storage at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Because the whereabouts of The Rose is known to the school community, but it is not known to the public, it is likely that at some point the artist who made this book object was a SFAI student."

next two top images were interpreted by my friend Edelira. The first one is the Greek Theatre, located above the University of California. Underneath is the 1967 date of the first Grateful Dead concert at the Greek Theater. This image probably indicates that Alarie lived in or near Berkeley in 1967.”
