Threnody was formed in late 1985 when Erik Erath wandered into a San Francisco record store and found David Hester's guitar wanted ad - "influences: Joy Division, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen". Hester and Erath, joined by Ty Gale, drums, they formed a set of "post punk" songs and performed them over the next 4 years...adding lucci Winborn, keyboards, and Kim Schumacher, backing vocals (who also assumed keyboards upon lucci's departure). By late 1989, the band set off to record in the legendary Razors' Edge Studio with lucci returning for some tracks.

"Cadence of a Song Grown Cold" is Threnody SF's only official release, and is a 6 song 30 minute EP released October 19, 2019.
