Australia 2015

I've never been north of Byron Bay before, so I'm looking forward to exploring Cairns and points north as much as my sweet David is.

After a 1200-mile flight from Brisbane, our plane approaches Cairns. The edge of the city can be seen at the far right of the photo.

Paul, my Sydney roommate from the early '70s, lives in Cairns and he serves as our tour guide during our visit. When we arrive, he picks us up at the airport and drives up to a scenic lookout so we can have a view of the lay of the land.

We've booked this luxury pad (if you're going to Queensland and looking for a spectacular place to stay, it's called Bedrock), located on the hillside above an upscale beach town about 10 miles north of Cairns.

We have a pool!
