Paris

An airline called RyanAir offered dirt cheap plane fares between the small airport in Girona to major cities in Europe, and we couldn't resist a 3-night trip to Paris. Nor could we resist the classic Eiffel Tower shot.

We also couldn't resist taking many hundreds of photos of all the other splendid things we saw, including the Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame, the D'Orsay, the Seine and its stunning bridges, the beautiful statuary, and much more.

Lucky for you, they're not included here. If you want to look at more pictures of Paris, check out Cynthia's solo trip from 2004. Otherwise, scroll down to see the handful of photos from this trip.

During an early morning visit to Sacre Coeur, we encountered the world's worst band. They looked fabulous -- dressed like vaquero pimps in leather jackets, tight leather chaps, and black hats -- but their sound! Ai yi yi! None of them in key with another, none of them in time with another. Some seemed to be playing a waltz, others a 4/4 beat. It was like listening to 3rd grade band practice. People were fleeing in droves and those who remained were gawking in slack-jawed amazement at the debacle.

In an effort to reduce motor vehicle traffic, Paris now offers free use (or very low cost, depending on how long you keep the bike) of loaner bikes, which you can pick up and drop off at numerous locations around town.

Next, we return to Spain and visit ancient ruins
