Utah, Spring 2010: Driving to Boulder
Though the mileage is small -- only about 150 miles -- the drive from Kanab to Boulder takes us most of the day. This is partly because we are traveling on two-lane country roads and partly because we have to stop every few miles and gawp at the astonishing scenery.
Painter Maynard Dixon lived near Kanab during the last decade of his life.
We visit his home, which is now a by-appointment museum, and have a picnic
in his former garden. This is the view he looked at every day from the
painter's studio on his property.
Bikers! Burgers! Beds! What more could a sockfrog want?
'Ack! Ack! They're trying to turn me into a frogburger!'
(The cook at the burger stand is amused to pose for this photo after
I promise him I'll put it on the Internet.)
