Utah, Spring 2010: Boulder at Last
We have two nights booked at the Boulder Mountain Lodge. Priced at nearly double what we are paying for any of our other nightly lodging, we see this as the luxury portion of our vacation program. The setting is blissfully bucolic. There is an excellent outdoor hot tub to relax in, and great bird-watching at the bird preserve pond next to it. The New York Times travel section has raved about Hell's Backbone Grill, the restaurant on the premises.
After leaving Kodachrome Basin, we begin our journey across a ridge road called 'Hell's Backbone' that is one of the most spectacular drives we have ever made. We share the road with few vehicles; most are Cruise America rental RVs like the one visible here. |
At last we arrive at the lodge.
Our room is at the far end on the ground floor. We can gaze at the
bird preserve from our window.
On the far side of the pond, somebody has erected a sign. I keep meaning
to ask staff about it, but I am too dazed by the scenery to remember.
