Utah, Spring 2010: A Peek at Bryce Canyon

The last time we went to Bryce Canyon, temperatures were nearly 90 degrees. I fractured my thumb when my rental horse fell down and David got food poisoning. This visit, temperatures are hovering in the 20s with a windchill factor that brings it down to around zero. Though we stop at most of the lookouts once we arrive at Bryce, we don't linger at any of the views.

We must pass through this bridge carved through sandstone to get to Bryce.

As the rock formations grow more and more outrageous and we gain elevation, we can tell we are nearing Bryce.

The scrub brush alongside the roadway looks like it froze solid while swirling in the wind. David approximates the predicament, but I call him back to the car before the freezing weather turns him to ice, too.

Having seen Bryce during warmer weather in 2002, it's fascinating to see it dusted with snow.
