  5th kyu test
When a technique is named, it usually has three components.
The attack by uke i.e. shomen uchi (strike to head)
The response by nage i.e. ikkyo (first technique)
The direction of the throw or pin by nage i.e. ura-waza (turn to back).
UKEMI (falling, rolling)
shikko (knee walking)
ukemi (forward and backward rolls)
TACHI WAZA (empty hand, no bokken or jo)
katate dori (wrist grab)
tai no henko (blending) (tenkan (towards back) kihon (basic) & ki no nagare (flowing, in motion)
shiho-nage (4-direction throw) (omote (towards the front) & ura (towards the back))
kote-gaeshi (wrist throw)
shomen uchi (strike to the top of the head)
ikkyo (first technique) (irimi & tenkan)
irimi nage (entering throw)
SUWARI WAZA (on your knees)
ryote dori kokyu-ho (grab with both hands, straight across)
WEAPONS
    Bokken-1st suburi & Jo Tsuki

  Japanese Terms
Japanese terms in aikido are refreshingly straightforward. They just describe the motion, body part, or direction. You'll become familiar with them because we use them all the time. Here's the most common.
