Back Yard

This photo was actually taken from the main level deck, but shows the chunk of lawn that you can walk out on from the basement doors. The arbour has a deep purple clematis vine climbing up both sides, and marks the edge of the flat part of our yard. The first wandering line of greenish vegetation beyond the arbour is the canal that defines the back border of our property. To the right, the canal runs into what is currently a dry lake bed. Like the beatiful "For Sale" lawn accent?

The arbour leads to this short flight of steps and a terraced vegetable garden. The vines that are running amok in there right now are pumpkin plants, so we should be all set for Halloween this year! There are several little loose gravel "landings" in this sloped part of the garden, one of which you can see on the right side of the photo.

This was taken standing on that little gravel landing and looking back towards the back of the house. The three little windows to the left are the ones in the master bedroom, and the sliding doors from the deck lead into the kitchen. As you can see, the deck is a wraparound. This is also your first look at the xeriscaping the current owners have done on the hillside. They've planted native grasses, wildflowers, raspberry bushes, and a few trees across the top part of the hillside. (Please forgive the blue tinge on the right side of the photo -- my scanner has decided to be possessed by Smurfs.)
