Neil - Hope it's a good flight.

Fireworks - driving home today some guy called in to the radio station
I was listening to and was complaining about how the fourth of july
was really just a big deal because the Chinese pump it up to sell us
fireworks and he didn't see what was so special about independence
anyway because we're friends with England now and stuff.

Jen, who once somehow set her shoe on fire by holding a sparkler.

"Jenny... you're shoe is on fire."
"Oh... cool."
"um, you should probably put it out."
"Oh... right."

Wheee! Neil's coming to Humanities fest! V.V. excited. The theme
this year is "Words & Pictures", and Will Eisner, Art Spiegelman and
Scott McCloud are all coming. And Leonard Nimoy. So you are all
officially invited to come and play! Go check out their website!
(Sorry, I forgot the address).

Angelina--Yeah, the dog-sitting is back-breaking. They have a
fenced-in back yard, so I have to open the door & let them out, and
then let them back in. I mean, sometimes I have to turn off the
computer, satellite TV or the DVD player to do it. Sheesh!

Today we learned that Tara, Debbie & Mary can move heavy things while
driving like a granny in an unfamiliar vehicle. It really scares me
that the three of us have such a good time together. Mostly because
Tara's the youngest, Debbie's a mom, and I'm.........

I'm thinking you'd better not say it, young feller-me-lad. Just don't
say it.......

Mary (reading 253)

P.S. Jouni--Good to hear from you! Glad you're getting your AG
soon--you won't have much time for it in another few weeks. Good luck!

Uhm. Wow. Seattle to Chicago can't be that expensive. I can get some
days off. I can stay somewhere. What are the ticket prices? How far in
advance will we know when people are speaking (days, etc)? ... this
sounds cool. :-)

*tired* *stressed* and *aggro* today -- worked 9am to 1:30am. X_X
We're wrapping up a project, yes, but this is insane.

But when I got home, I found my Book waiting for me!! YAY!!! IT'S
HERE!! FINALLY!!!! *hugz it* Now I'll post this, and run off to read
it!! *^O^* (And never fear spoilers again... and be able to read all
y'all's hidden posts!)

Happy Fourth of July, everyone! Miss the fireworks... (Was reminded of
what day it is when the cab driver mentioned that there wasn't much
business around the central business district tonight since the US
markets are closed... ^_^;) And have a safe trip, Neil!

JaNell - Fine. Then I won't talk to you either. :P btw, thank you for
Jameson. I still haven't had opportunity to write him and things,
because of 'fun with visitors'<tm> and stalking excursions, but thank
you nonetheless!

Linda - You got AG before I did, so no need to be jealous. ;)

Jouni - Geez, Gloomcookie makes it out that far? I'm still in shock
that Tree knew about it at the bookstore yesterday. I still remember
them setting up a table at the local club trying to plug it... odd...

Now to take people from the southern hemisphere over to my folks'
house and subject them to my relations. Damn the bay area for being so
dry, I dunno if we'll catch more than a shot or two of fireworks off in
the distance. Maybe I'll take a detour through Pacifica on the way to
the club...

JaNell, Will and Kelly, thanks for your de Lint input :) I'll check

First I have to finish "The King of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord
Dunsany. Its a wonderful little book, with the introduction by Neil. My
favorite line from the book so far is "I believe that by accepting all
that the poets say while duly inspired our errors will be fewest."

Hello Lisa!

Angelina, I'm also super excited about Tori. Her concept sounds very

Kelly--Last year tickets were $5 in advance, $6 at the door ( but of
course Himself sold out a couple weeks in advance). And it must be
said that until he mentioned it in Old 74, lots of people didn't know
he was coming. This year it looks like he's getting the New York Times
Best-Selling Author treatment (as he should) and so will be in a
larger venue ( I hope) and will be featured in the publicity. I've put
myself on their mailing list, so I'll keep you all updated.

Saw North Mississippi All-Stars, Semisonic & Wilco today for free.
NMAS *rocked*, Semi was semi-boring, and Wilco was terrific. Went
home, got some stuff & walked down the street to take a bus back up
here. At 10:30 p.m. my heavily immigrant neighborhood was still
celebrating-- people walking with their families, greeting each other,
shooting fireworks. Being from here, you forget. This *is* what the
Promised Land looks like. So Happy Independence Day to you all. It
may be one screwy place, but it ain't all bad.......

not being free, but being ruled by the dollar, and there's no escape
from it)

Mary - thanks so much. The whole concept of the event sounds wonderful
(with or without Neil, actually... I haven't seen Scott for a few
years, and have always really enjoyed him). Beyond that, the conference
is an amusingly "perfect" match for my partner and I; he draws and I
write. At times, we combine our efforts (which I hope to do for
Christmas, actually... after hearing the story behind Nicholas Was, we
both decided to pick up the idea and do our own cards/words for
Christmas... this year, we're actually thinking of a small book...)

In fact, perhaps I should just sign up for the mailing list, myself...

kelly: My friends and I used to write fiction for our friend Susan
garrett's birthdays, so she woudl get a 'zine every year. I love the
chapbooks Charles de Lint publishes every year as Christmas gifts, and
last year, got my friend Liz a copy of _Triskell Tales_ the hardcover
of all the chapbooks that I ordered from Dreamhaven. A few of the
stories I'd read in the Terri Windling and Ellen Datlow anthologies,
and some Newford anthologies, but some were all new. Really a nifty
book for de Lint fans. I highly recommend it. I can't wait for his new
book, as it's a Jilly book, and Jilly's one of my faves.... I even did
a sketch of her a few years back, for fun.

One of these days, I'm going to design a card. I just am the *worst*
at anything that requires a stamp and a trip to the post offal. I
usually end up doing e-cards, for my various fan sites.

JaNell - Okay, I'm sufficiently afraid... but I suppose that could
just be due to sleep dep. :P (hrm, all these floppy raspberry tongues
everywhere have got to be leaving a slobbery mess somewhere)

the 4th for me was a wonderfully full day, tho' not many fireworks.
The Lady Miss Tree was subjected to my family and smiled any way (it
could just have been because she liked the pool and barbecue tho').
Then we met with other online locals and bantered and later decided
that karaoke is something that just plain doesn't belong in an
establishment called 'the BBC Pub'.

So I ordered some stuff from the CBLDF site that Neil pointed us too
and minutes ago I got the call that a package had arrived "from some
comic book place". So I sprinted downstairs to the receptionist's desk
and eagerly retrieved my package. It was a bit heavier than I had
anticipated. I ripped it open and, lo and behold, among several other
items it contained a signed copy of AG. Which was great, except that I
didn't order (another) copy of AG. And my copy of "Gods & Tulips" was
missing. So part of me really wanted to keep the signed AG, and my
office-mate suggested that I should, but obviously ripping of the CBLDF
won't fly (*sigh*), so I called them up and told them I'd mail it back
to them and please could they send me my G&T. The guy on the phone
was very nice.

The baby gets cuter every day and takes up most of my free time such
that I have very little else to say. ^_^
