You know, I'd like to say I'm shocked that anyone could think like that cute lil FAQ submitter, but I'm not. Too much experiance, I guess... many moons ago, one of my many sisterinlaws took offense when I told her "that's such a wonderfully Buddhist attitude!" But, yes, back to the FAQ and such. You see, I read Falwells comments today, too, and was rather taken aback at his timing (tho not his comments). So, I was talking to a friend about it... when it hit me! I have the _perfect_ solution for any future problems with Afghanistan! We'll give them Falwell! Yeah! And then we'll just keep passing them all the ultra-conservative fundamentalists just like Falwell. I mean, yeah, sure,... the first few dozen will probably end up dead, but we'll swamp Afghanistans resources soon enough, and then they'll be on their knees begging to negotiate! er... *innocent smile* JaNell - congrats on being able to donate! That's great. The response here has been really amazing, and I second Neil - y'all are a truly great bunch. But I'm flexible. You can be horribly bad, too. ;-) -Kelly

That's an amazing article you linked to today, Neil. I've been thinking a lot about cell phone calls an answering machine messages and people who jumped. It's the empathy that gets me emotional, not the fear. And to throw my lot with those who are disavowing that FAQers assertion, I should think that God would be a rather big fan of acts of creation, of creativity; particularly story telling. I know you've been really busy since AG hit the shelves, Neil, but I don't suppose you've had time to go through any of the fan mail which followed it yet? I want to know if you received any letters from individuals purporting to be gods, thanking you for writing the book, telling you that you got it just right -- "At last I am understood", "It was like looking into a mirror", that sort of thing. Surely such a book would bring at least one such "god" out of hiding.

Well, yes, of course I meant everyone, JaNell - there are reasons one shouldn't try communicating when taking percoset. And everyone can be wicked, and naughty, too. Thanks for that link, Neil... I'm trying to collect anything like that - positive things and thoughts - to post as counterweight on a 'board I'm on, where everyone is so focused on negativeness and destruction. (And the link made me cry, which I think I needed...) Went to a concert last night, ended up having to stand thru most of it (general seating on a large floor that had no seats) - and ended up getting hit in the ribs a few times. Ouch. The drugs are back out... and I think I should go lay down before they take effect. -Kelly

Hi guys. First of all, I'd like to say that I'm glad that everyone's okay. When I was first told, it was via phone and I was half asleep. I thought it was some kind of fucked up nightmare, even after I turned on the TV. I still kind of think it is.... Went to a Tool concert tonight and man was it amazing. Naked contortionists, mostly naked Maynard. Wooo! (and might I add that I am now convinced that he has the hottest butt in all rock 'n roll (and very talented too, of course) Anyway, towards the end of the show he pretty much summed up my thoughts on the current US situation. He began by saying (this is a loose quote, but pretty close) "We've all been through a lot this week. Now's a time when we need to be there for each other." And then suddenly the crowd started chanting "USA! USA! USA!" I was instantly disgusted and apparently so was Maynard. He said "This is not a political forum! We should be above such ignorance. This is about looking deep into our spiritual selves and feeling sympathy and helping each other. This is not about what country we're from, this is about being human. (crowd cheers) I want you guys to absorb all of the emotions you're feeling right now, go home, do something productive with them, and create something positive." Very well put, I thought. And that was the spirit of the whole evening.

JaNell and Elise, perhaps we can all gather in the crafts conference to pant heavily over watermelon tourmaline beads before we drool all over this topic. And there, perhaps we can force JaNell to tell us all about the jewelry she makes and then we can force her to listen to us tell her all about the jewelry we make and we will have so much fun that everyone will come and join us...

Great review in the Post today, Neil! I've been meaning to read both King & Straub books and now that I know that BH draws upon the Dark Tower books a bit, I'll definitely go get them from the library. I didn't even notice that the review was by you until I got to the end, which is funny because the bit about playing "hunt-the-author" made me think 'that sounds like something Neil would say'. It's the Sunday after and I had to go to four different places just to find a copy of the Post, as everywhere seems to sold out unusually quickly. Could it be that everyone is more interested in the news following Tuesday's tragedy? (Or could it be that there are more Neil fans in this area than ever expected? ^_^)

JaNell's silverworking is lovely (she gave me a world tree when I was signing in Kentucky). Lioness's beadstuff is amazing, although her antique amber apothecary necklace was quite awesome. Dan -- glad you enjoyed it. (I got a chuckling e-mail from Peter Straub telling me I'd called it right on my guesses.)

Many hugs to everyone who has needed one lately and what the heck, hugs for those who haven't. Don't worry, it's okay, I took a shower. Beadwork? Silverworking? This forum always manages to make me feel so untalented. :-) Of course, it also usually then kicks me in the pants to try things. I just bought a bunch of drawing stuff and boy, I'm no Jouni, but I'm a little better than I thought at least. My creative writing class just started and I'm writing a story making fun of my teacher to cheer him up because he just had neck surgery and can't actually be there for the first five weeks. And I'm wondering about everyone's preference on something. I'm in the middle of a joke making fun of his sandals and... sandaled, or sandalled? Oh, and for those of you who know Luna, she was on vacation in Russia when the past weeks events unfolded and she was finally able to make it back to the states today, so hoorah, huzzah and yippee! I missed my writing buddy. Jen, who feels herself slipping further and further into lurkerdom lately.

Sandalled if you're english, Sandaled if you're american. Like jewellery and jewelery, or traveller and traveler. And that's good news about Luna. I still haven't decided whether or not to go to Italy this week (or even if I can) -- not worried about being exploded, but slightly concerned about stranded over there if interenational events take another turn for the weird.

Even if you're in no danger there--and I think you're right that the chiefest danger is of being stranded--it might be a good idea to stay home. But it's also good to work. So however you make up your mind.

Jenny~the thing is, though, I'm amassing a collection of stuff I've made, or written, or whatever, and have no idea what really to do with it... I've always envied people who have one thing they're focused on doing, and know how to go about getting it where it needs to go when they're done.

"Focused" is something I've heard about, and many people have suggested to me, but y'all know how resistant to suggestions I am... I think this "focus" thing people keep going on about is one of those unprovables, like "Heaven", "Hell", and "Zen"... you just take it on faith, or you just smile & nod at them. Cameron said, "Whenever people start talking to me about this 'focus', I just try to change the subject." Cam is in the dog house anyway; today was Rowan's birthday, and the week's events had screwed up the birthday party plans, so we didn't have any gifts yet... so I sent him out for Ro gifts... and he came back with a Cam gift, which is bad enough... but worse, it's a "Ghost in the Shell" figurine, which of course is a Todd McFarlane product. And I did get Ro some nice art stuff, so he's OK 'til his party with other small varmints.

I'm home. I was very worried about you all, and am very glad to hear that you're all O.K. Happy birthday to Rowan. Jinx-- prayers & best wishes for your mom's speedy recovery. I don't have anything more to add about what happened this week, except that the idea of shipping Falwell & Robertson to whomever is responsible for this certainly has it's appeal. I'm trying to focus on the images of priests, rabbis & imams uniting to decry this. Much of the religious leadership in this catastrophe has been stellar. If only anyone were really listening........ Since I haven't seen it mentioned, Emma is home intact (at least, as intact as she left here). No serious problems with travel, except, apparently, for an irritable shuttle-bus driver at the LAX parking lot. She's still got PT and the eventual removal of the aftermarket hardware, and it isn't yet certain if her elbow will get back absolutely full mobility (joint injuries are Bad), but there seems no serious doubt that she'll be typing and playing the guitar again.
