That _would_ be ironic. And good to hear from you again! (I _think_ you
haven't posted for a while... but keep in mind I'm reading nine-month-old
posts alongside the new, so I could be a little time-warped.)

Rocky -- _Ether_ just showed up on eBay again! Check out
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=906546133&ssPageName=ADME:B
:SS:US:1
. (I see this particular seller up there all the time with TT stuff.)

I forgot to mention, I sent my CBLDF e-mail the other day. Lorraine, God
bless her, answered me less than two hours later! I'll give the
organization itself another week or so to prove their e-mail's working.

Have a nice weekend, everyone! Neil and Holly, and everyone going to the
signings, have fun in CA!

Being careful not to walk under any black cats, break any ladders, or let
a mirror cross her path today,
Christy

Hey -- hey! It's your lucky day!

Earlier this week, my oldest son's Comparative Religions teacher,
Allison, called to tell me that since Sean is taking an advanced version
of the class, and likes SF, she'd loaned him "Dune"... and could I
possibly get a copy of "Good Omens" and/or "American Gods" for him to
read after that?

JaNell
who's still laughing, and wondering if Sean can get extra credit for
knowing how Knoxville came to be mentioned in AG.

> I may have some of my skirts up in a local designer consignment
shop next month!

Congrats, MM! Let us know if/when you've got them set to sell, so that
we can come be supportive :)

(It took me a moment to parse this sentence, because I just kept
having the picture in my head of miss-mousey on a pedestal, holding her
skirt up over her head and displaying a fantastically colored pair of
bloomers! (the old kind what have legs and frills) )

:)

My big excitement today was getting up at 6am so that myself and some
friends could go wait in line for a spot in the Alton Brown cooking
class in October. We weren't sure how many people were going to be
there two hours early, but we knew that a host of people had been
calling Sur La Table about it, so we wanted to be sure to get a spot.
They'd only room for 35 people.

When we got there, we found 4 people there ahead of us, one having
arrived at 4am. We were 4th in line, and the lovely woman behind us
ended up getting the last spot in the class. 3 minutes to sell out the
class, and there were some rather testy customers once it was announced
the class had filled. We got our spots, though, and I can't stop being
thrilled about the whole thing!

<siozie> - Funny you should have that visual, as my typical 'Saturday
Night' garb at Burning Man consists of one of said fluffy skirts,
complete with black pantaloons (with frills and ribbons at the cuffs).
They look best with the stripey tights underneath. :)

Congrats on the cooking class - you must share your most exciting
cooking triumphs and catastrophes with us now.

Some time ago, I posted here that, upon getting a job and being able to
spend the money, I would buy Martha's book.
I have had a job for a few months now, and having paid off one of two credit
cards, I am happy to say that I have finally done so, purchasing a new copy
from Another Change of Hobbit.
I just thought I should announce this.

Madman - I've made many similar promises, but finding a suitable job
is proving a lot harder than it ought to be.

happy in it- may you find similar success.

Good luck with the job search, Shawn. Finding work is always harder
work than working itself.

I'm Torn. I don't know whether to pre-order the limited edition DVd
thingy of Scarlet's Walk from Amazon. I really want to be guaranteed a
copy, but I hate Amazon and am boycotting them. It's not listed on any
other website (as far as I know). It's still early though. Maybe I'll
wait it out a while. People that have pre-ordered it are saying that
the estimated shipping date is January 19th. Gotta love Amazon. Torn,
torn.
Neil- You wouldn't happen to know exactly *how* limited this thing is
going to be, do you? Should I go for it?

Erynn, who needs to take a cake out of the oven.

Thanks for the wishes, both of you. :)

Why the boycott Erynn? I was also thinking of preordering, but I'd
want to make sure I recieved it.

Erynn, I pre-ordered, and my estimated receiving date was Oct. 31st -
Nov. 3rd, and it comes out Oct. 29th, so that's not so bad. I've never
had any problems with Amazon, but you should probably go by your own
experience.

Less than a week before my 29th birthday, and I found my first white
hair this morning. It was pure white, about an inch and a half long,
and coarse and wirey, almost like plastic doll hair. I thought it was a
cat hair I'd somehow gotten in my hair. Imagine my surprise when I
realised I was attached.

I've had some white and grey hairs for a while now. The really odd thing is
the white hairs are _straight_, while the rest of my hair is very curly. I
fear for what this bodes.

miss-mousey - That outfit sounds fantastic! :)

As for my cooking adventures, they are many and varied! We often have
experimental dinners at the Lair (our house), and on Sundays there are
usually cookies of some kind, often also a culinary experiment :) I
love to cook!

Shawn - Good luck to you! I'm looking as well, so I know what you're
going through. :)

<also subsiding at last to mere giggles and wiping tears from eyes> Oh,
my! But, for him to ask about the extra credit, you'd have to admit to
the
-rest- of the world that you can't pick a sushi place for love nor
money...

Christy -- If tapping the wainscotting doesn't work, you can find PNH at
http://nielsenhayden.com (also TNH; between the two of them there's
enormous quantities of good reading over there).

Tara -- The Uptown sounds truly amazing. Was it open just for a routine
caretaker's visit? or is somebody working or maybe thinking of doing some
work in there at last?

Tara - Definitely not a cause for immediate panic; like Dan, I found
my first several white hairs when I was 15. 7-8 on either side of the
back of my head. They haven't multiplied since then so you probably
have many, many moons before you find any of it's siblings. :)

Meg - I'm with you in the cooking trenches. Now that my little 'gal
has moved in, we've been experimenting each night. No one has gone
blind yet so I take that as good tidings. With a few of them though,
only my love of animals has prevented me from testing them on a stray
just to be sure.

Dan - I'm an ungrateful wench, we all know that. The whole list is, um,
pretty bizarre, and might reveal whole arenas of chaos (having nothing
to do with Mr. Gaiman) that you *really* don't want to know about. Or
maybe do, if you're into Con lore trivia
(mumblemumbleChattaCon95ThermonuclearDeviceHowWasIToKnowHowPeopleWereGoingToUs
eThoseBiohazardStickersmumble).
Are you going to hate me because, at 38, I don't have a single gray,
except one gray in my right eyebrow that's popped in only in the last
few years?

Oh, and I'd gladly trade you but I have no idea what to do with your
lefty. Specialty market, perhaps?

Hmm...

Thinking.

Dan's left, or Harlan?

Neil - Thank you for signing those pics; or rather, they were supposed to
be pictures, or at least on photo paper; Pam asked if she could have a
copy of that photo of her and Malkevich by the signing, and I said sure,
but here's my price: hence the multiple copies. I figured Jameson should
have one as a Get Well (broken arm)/early birthday gift. And of course,
the whole coffee shop has heard about you <cough> so it seemed
appropriate. The artist whose portfolio I gave to you at MadCon last
year, Adam, is now working there; he'll get a big kick out of seeing it
on the wall at work. He just finished his graphic novel, by the way.

You should *see* some of the incriminating photos I have of Pamela, and
ToriBat.

Where's Linda? I just pop in and out, which makes it hard to join the
conversation, but I did notice that Jon is posting for the poor instead
of Linda...

Hi, Jon! It's not that I don't appreciate, I was just wondering.

And for anyone morbidly interested, there's a link on my blog to a pic
of what (minor damage, in this case) a brown recluse bite can do to a
human foot. *My* human foot. Erch.

JaNell,
five weeks later and still counting toes, just to be sure.

At 48 I have no grey hair! But then, I haven't seen the true color of
my hair since I was in my 20s. The shade changes according to whatever
whim I'm under the day I buy the box but mostly it's in the lighter
brown ranges with just a touch of reds. Sometimes it's redder. I'd love
to turn it that vibrant red of Scully in XFiles or Willow in Buffy but
to do that, my hairdresser says, would require stripping it and I'm
not fond of that thought. Every now and then I decide to try to let it
grow out and see how much grey there is. And that lasts for about 1/2
of an inch.

Hrm... well, I bleached by hair and dyed it grey for a role earlier...
