Mr. Gaiman
Yes, it's the Rio Bookfair thing (Bienal Internacional do Livro). The
person from the Conrad stand was the one who said they had contacted
your agent to invite you for the next one (takes place in 2007). In any
case, I didn't tell a soul :) We'll continue hoping though.

I had no idea it was you on the cover, but then I'm often clueless.
The letter inside is very nice and people loved it - made them feel
special as a country and that doesn't happen that often here.

And congratulations on your son's graduation - it's such a landmark in
one's life.

Yesterday's performance went GREAT! I am thrilled. :)

And now back to your regularly scheduled Neilness.

Oh, and Georgia, my Brazilian friend (and extraordinary teacher) João
Guilherme Ripper had a two-part piece in it for two flutes. I always
like his stuff. Have I asked you if you've heard of him? He's pretty
big in orchestral music circles in Rio; I think he's got some
governmental position in the arts now. I knew him when he was just
going for his doctorate... :)

Does Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler) have an author's website sorta
like Neil?

Thank you! I knew I could count on the Well. My boss's 7 year old
recently began reading the books and is loving them. So he wanted to
know a bit more. I knew I could find it by searching Neil's site but
every time I do that, I get, well, you know, distracted and forget what
it was I had gone in to search for.

Oh, good, Neil IS coming to DC on the tour! Wonder if it'll be the
Bookfest? If it turns out to be Border's, I'll feel like I helped. ;)

And of course there's New York. Hope Ben will be in town then.

Yeah, we should!

It is nice that he's been asked here two years in a row, after a
hiatus of, what... three or four years? I think he was last in town
for _Dream Hunters_ or something, and that may have been Baltimore.

It was before my time, anyway.

Does anybody know when Mirrormask will be out in the cinema? I'm
trying to time my trip to the US so I can get both Anansi signed *and*
Mirrormask viewed - if possible.

Help?

Hi all

You know, as an illustrator I think the ONLY thing as cool as working
with
Neil is... working with Neil AGAIN.

So, that leads us to...

STUDY IN EMERALD WILL BE PUBLISHED AS A BROADSHEET POSTER

Neil's Hugo-award winning, absolutely bloody marvelous short-story
'Study in
Emerald' will be coming out as a broadsheet poster sometime next fall.
Illustrations and lay-out by... well, me.

The poster will be published by Dreamhaven Books.

I'm also working on a net-version of the same story, and if everything
goes
the way we've planned, it will appear to neilgaiman.com during 'the
great
web-page update' that Neil has mentioned few times in his blog.

I'll post the official pressrelease-thing when there is one, but for
now...

Life is good. I'm very happy.

Cheerio.

So. Is it the detective or the actor on the poster? I guess I can
wait. Dear me. AAAAAA NO! NO! I CANT! Another thing to wait for. Sigh.

I've been reading Shadows Over Baker Street. I think when told to do a
Lovecraftian Holmes many of these authors had the same thought in mind
and so many of the stories are similar. One actually put in something
that made me go, "Oh, come ON." Something about the villain hesitating
over a picture of the Queen (Victoria). Sigh. I'm being very careful
not to spoil here. But the one story that stands out as the most
original concept in the whole book is Neil's. That's not to say the
rest are not good; some of them are quite entertaining. Some of them
are yawners. Some your mind tries very hard to forget shortly after you
read them. But only Neil's is worth reading AGAIN. and again.

Jouni--Congratulations! That's wonderful! I can't wait to see it! I
shall try to stop with the exclamation points now. ;-)

Yeah, harry Potter's going to start the book binge for me, and it's
just going to be a bloodbath. Oh, well, eating's over-rated.

Mary (reading The Priestly Sins by Father Greeley, in which he
actually says that homosexuals are born that way........it's really
cool to see someone open-minded enough to change a public stance--so
many people would just keep repeating what they had always believed.
Not a bad book, either--your man is *pissed* about the cover-ups in
Boston and elsewhere, and says a lot of things I've been thinking, but
couldn't have expressed so well. Thus endeth the lesson--sorry. ;-) )

Just finished Neverwhere.

Amazing.

Fantastic.

And, for a time near the end, I HATED Neil. Hated him. Just did so.
Unfortunately, I can't explain why without spoiling the book for
people.

But the ending was great, if not quite totally unexpected.

I thought there was no going back. (Or is that too spoilerish?)

Anyway, great book.

respected. Cool you know him!

Dan & Kilted Keeper of the rat gravy
Thanks for the round-ish date. September is good, though October would
be better (but look at me not complaining).

If I make it up anybody up for sushi at the Blue Ribbon in NY? I'm up
for anywhere that doesn't involve flying.

Jouni
Congratulations and it seems I need to add another book to my list.

Mercifully, the list never ends.
