Notshakespeare & Mary
I regret to say RPS doesn’t stand for rock, paper and scissors, Kilted
Gravy. As it was explained to me, it stands for Real Person Slash and
as much as I like the idea of people taking existing characters and
using their imaginations to write new stories with new pairings (slash
fan fiction comes to mind) – using real people and slashing them
disturbs me. I’ve learnt to skip the comments on the LJ feed because
I’d be one of the annoying people explaining that it was just a feed
until I gave up fighting the white and stopped dying my hair, but I
kept reading posts from related communities and this particular one
just didn’t sit well with my breakfast. Maybe it was what I had for
breakfast, but I don’t think so.

Mary
Please don’t apologise. It was good to know what to expect and Boston?
I don’t remember when was the last time I was in Boston. I was in
Philadelphia last year, but Boston - it has been a while. Any good
sushi in Boston? And isn’t Johanna in Boston? It doesn’t have to be New
York and I don’t mind taking the train. My only problem is flying
around the USA and just because right after this stop I have to cross
the Atlantic and fly, fly, fly.

Mary, I think I found you on LJ and took the liberty of adding you.

And yes, it will work out. These things have a way of always working
themselves out.

I should stop playing online and get back to work.

In NYC getting there 3 hours early is plenty to get a really good
seat/low number. I've never tried arriving there later than that.

See? In Chicago an hour is usually fine. I'm spoiled.

georgiac--I don't mind coming into The City (Ahhh, The City. My The
City). When the dates get announced, let's look at days and see what
works out. A Saturday or Sunday would be perfect.

And I am theroane on LJ, but at the moment CPS has blocked LJ from our
'puters (probably the slash) and I can't update my blog. Maybe I'll
get in the habit of blogging this summer (not that I have anything to
say, really.)

OK, I'm an idiot. And I can't remember how to scribble, either.

And, georgiac? RPS? Eeeeewwwww! I'm with ya!

To scribble - click on the number of post (like #730). You'll get a
popup. Hit "Scribble".

I was force to practise that today.

Must go and check to see if he's coming anywhere near Houston. Sigh.
Usually not. Whazza matter wi us? We're a big city.

dodge--he rarely comes into the South, and I agree with you--it's a
shame. I keep telling my friends how great his readings are, but they
never get to see him.

Is anybody else going to be facing the same fan-angst as myself? SERENITY
and MIRRORMASK opening on the same day? Augh!!!! Time to take the day off
from work and watch movies all day!

BTW, I have an awful confession to make. Please don't kill me. Shortly
after I did my Thorne Smith squeeing here, Neil e-mailed me ANANSI BOYS [the
benefits of knowing one's fountain pens and Thorne Smith should now be
apparent.] It is amazing fun. If Neil were channeling Thorne Smith and P.G.
Wodehouse in a neighborly sort of way, but never being possessed by them or
speaking in anything but his own voice, well, that's what this book is like.
(Yes, I so suck at descriptions). As Sam Goldwyn would say, it's written
with great charmth. And the scary moments are rare but highly effective.
And there is booze and romance in it. :) And you're gonna *love* the
dedication.

I see he IS coming to Austin, apparently. As soon as I find out the
details, I'll be taking some time off as necessary and saving my funds
for a trip. I know. Only 3 hour trip from Houston but I tire easily.

Are the dates up somewhere? I just got the Mirrormask thing saying it
will start on 9/30 - which seems to be doable. If the NY dates coincide
it would be great.

Kathi - If I didn't like your posts and your pens, I might have the
nerve to call you something nasty out of jealousy. Instead, I will
simply point at you and say "neener neener!" because you're a bigger
Serenity fan than me and thus stuck in a jam between movies.

But then, imagine how I'm feeling: Neil signing and Mirrormask and
Serenity on the same day. At least I'm willing to see Serenity on day
#2. ;)

So, I'll be able to watch Mirrormask without a schedule conflict.

Mousey and Dan, feel free to hurl all the epithets you wish, I completely
understand. I grovel for your forgiveness. And if you wish to have the pen-
edge as well, I proffer a very long rambling blog entry on how I restore a
Waterman 52. I don't care if eBay prices go up, if it means more flex-nibbed
fountain pens for all!

http://kli.freeshell.org/inkista/archives/2005/01/sweet_52_or_sho.html

You're on your own for the Thorne Smith, though. :-)

And wow, Mousey, a three-way collision! I am fervently hoping Universal
moves SERENITY up in the schedule. As it is, it's CORPSE BRIDE 9/23,
SERENITY and MIRRORMASK 9/30 and WALLACE & GROMIT: CURSE OF THE WERE_RABBIT
on 10/7. Yeeps. And I am green with envy over those who've managed to get
into a sneak of SERENITY. I know someone who's been to TWO of the Seattle
screenings. [gnashing of teeth]. You blink and cantstopthesignal.com is
nothing but "sold out"s.

Bruce: The omg! dvd release this year for me is PROFIT.

p.s. Just finished reading Connie Willis's novella, INSIDE JOB (skeptics,
channeling, mediums, starlets, and H.L. Menken). Wah, I want MORE!!
