Dan, Neighbor, I'm going to have to make really good friends with you
and show you how trustworthy I am at borrowing books.

Kathy -- I'm not a Bruce, I just think the lead actor in NwM is
terrific and rules and stuff. Now, _Profit_... that sounds familiar.
When was it and what was it about?

Nukem -- You'll be in NY? Cool! Or have I said that before?

Kathy Li writes:

PROFIT was a 1996 show, done in the wake of TWIN PEAKS, that starred Adrian
Pasdar as the sociopath Jim Profit, who was working his way up the corporate
ladder of Gracen & Gracen by any means necessary, including blackmail and
murder. He lacked a moral sense because he'd been raised by the television
he could see through the hole cut into his refrigerator box, where his father
kept him naked and chained and threw him the occasional bit of food. Or
something like that. David Greenwalt was the power behind the show.
Greenwalt and Whedon always wanted to get Jim Profit onto ANGEL as one of the
Wolfram & Hart Senior Partners, but Pasdar was starring in MIRACLES, and
couldn't free up his schedule for a guest spot.

Fox only aired four episodes, but there were eight in the can. TRIO aired
the complete series when they premiered their BRILLIANT BUT CANCELLED
showcase about three years ago, but they haven't repeated it since. Thank
goodness for Anchor Bay. They're even doing commentary tracks.

No, he slept with his mother, killed his father, and then put his eyes
out with his mother's jewelry.

Oh. Wait. That's some other guy.

Maybe we should all meet up in DC? New York is looking like a pain,
and Boston not much better. Must check train timesschedules from
Conn., as I'm here presently.

Is slowly dawning on me that this is going to be a HUGE undertaking,
moving me & the evil, ancient cat & all the fishies from Chicago. Ugh.

Gabaldon, starting The Bishop at Sea by Andrew Greeley)

Whatever you fine people decide, will work for me. DC, Boston
(Johanna, from the House of Clocks, is in Boston), NY... All sounds
good as long as it can be with the train. Dan, thanks for the kind
offer, but instead can you point me towards a hotel with a good
location - if we DC it? I'm adventurous enough, but my back isn't :)

I have to say I enjoy not actually knowing all the details, but in any
case I will fly to NY at the beginning of September and will stay on
until Mirrormask shows - as long as I'm out by October 2nd, life is
good.

Speaking of Boston, where be Davey Snyder these days? Not on the
Well, I see.

I don't know how pricey the Park Hyatt in DC is, but I do remember
that its phone number is (703)789-1234. It's like a counting skit on
_Sesame Street_!

Hey, cool! After getting the idea from the letter in
http://www.neilgaiman.com/journal/2005/06/quick-happy-one.asp, I
googled my first name in both the forms I use (Christy and Christine),
and the first hit for each one was a folk singer!

(Not only that, but ones I'd heard of and have recordings of: Irish
singer Christy Moore and fairy-voiced comedienne Christine Lavin.)

Come to think of it, I'm a little surprised the "Christine" hit had
nothing to do with _Phantom of the Opera_.

Dan! Thanks for all the rec's. One question - is the Mandarin, between
Maine and Maryland Avenues (and 12th & 14th St.), close enough to the
reading (and well located in general?)?

I figured the trains (sort of), but have no idea how far the train
station is from where I'll end up in (nice, warm room with great room
service & kick ass breakfast). I need a local! Let me know if I'm too
inquisitive.
