Had a splendid gig out in Point Reyes Station last night. Rubber Souldiers
ride again!

Paul Knight, a bass player (who also works as sound man for the David Grisman
Quintet), does a monthly "PK & Friends" gig at the Station House Cafe out
there. He invited me to do one with him,a nd asked what I'd like to do. I
suggested we get the Rowans out there and play Beatle songs. So that's what
happened last night! We haven't played together since September 2006, and
Paul wasn't on that one - so it was for all intents and purposes an
unrehearsed show.

The restaurant was full, and right behind me, sitting at the bar, were half a
dozen regulars who were very much into what we were doing. So we had a choir
singing along with us for much of the show.

Hello, friends. I've got two Bay Area events to tell you about.

Saturday 3/8 - songwriters unplugged at Spuds
Wednesday 3/12 - Beatle jam in Fairfax!

 Details:

 Wendy Beckerman
 Mario DeSio
 David Gans
 Vanessa Lowe

 Saturday 3/8/08
 Doors 7:30, show 8pm
 suggested donation $5-10

 SPUD'S
 3290 Adeline (at Alcatraz)
 Berkeley CA
 http://www.spudspizza.net

Here's the email Mario sent out:

I'm very pleased to be presenting Vanessa Lowe, David Gans and Wendy
Beckerman at the next Spuds parlor series. March 8th 7:30pm 3290 Adeline St.
@ Alcatraz in Berkeley. These are three fantastic composers with mesmerizing
 stage presence.

Vanessa sits in the upper echelon of singer songwriters with an
unpredictable complexity of lyrics and advanced guitar fingerpicking
 style.

Wendy's voice is hypnotically siren like and tends to silence an entire room
locking the audience into every word of her beautiful songs.

David is among the finer guitarists you'll hear in the Bay Area with a mix
of wry and sensitive lyrics in his songs. He's one of my favorites!
They all are actually so I'm thrilled to be there!

The Parlor is a perfect room for music being comfortable, small and
acoustically balanced. Some don't even use the PA.

 Come down!
 be well
 Mario

I would add that Mario is a wonderful songwriter, too: sardonic and silly
and sentimental as hell in turn. I'm thrilled to be playing with these
 fine songwriters!

And next Wednesday, March 12, it's RUBBER SOULDIERS at the Iron Springs Pub
and Brewery, 765 Center Blvd., Fairfax, CA. No cover! 415-485-1005.

Lorin Rowan, Chris Rowan, David Gans, and Paul Knight plus surprise guests!
It'll be mostly Beatle songs, but the last time we did this (in January) we
slipped in a few other favorites as well.

(Robin Sylvester and Mark Karan have said they'll probably be with us,
and Bobby Weir has been invited as well.)

Check out the posters for these shows at http://www.dgans.com/gigs.html

Yesterday's mail brought a tearsheet of a review of my CD "Twisted Love
Songs" in Dirty Linen magazine. "'Twisted Love Songs' is a good repre-
sentation of David Gans' live shows, and should serve as a good introduction
to those who haven't caught up with this talented musician."

Greetings!

I was reminded recently that it's been quite a while since I last sent out a
gig announcement. I have been waiting for the release date of my new CD to be
set, but it keeps being delayed. If all goes well, it'll be ready in mid-
July.

The CD is called "The Ones That Look the Weirdest Taste the Best" - a line
from a song called "The Bounty of the County" that I wrote last fall in
collaboration with my wife, Rita Hurault. It's all about shopping at the
Farmers' Market - specifically the Grand Lake Farmers' Market in Oakland,
around Labor Day. We're hoping to write another song or three about the other
seasons, but these things take time.

The new CD was recorded in New Jersey in two sets of sessions last year. It
was produced by Tim Carbone, violinist of Railroad Earth (whose new CD "Amen
Corner" is great - http://www.railroadearth.com), with his bandmates John
Skehan, Andy Goessling, and Johnny Grubb, along with several other giants of
the New Jersey music scene, playing on ten of the eleven tracks. "The Bounty
of the County" was recorded in San Francisco with Tim Carbone on fiddle, Zac
Matthews of Hot Buttered Rum on mandolin and vocals, and Paul Knight on bass.

You can hear "The Bounty of the County" (and maybe even buy it online) at
http://www.reverbnation.com/davidgans - and while you're visiting that site,
I'd appreciate it if you'd sign up for the mailing list there by clicking on
the "Become a Fan" and/or "Join Street Team" buttons below my picture in the
upper left of the home page. The database there keeps track of ZIP codes, so
eventually I'll be able to target these emails so you won't have to read
announcements about shows that are happening far away from where you are.

The aforementioned Paul Knight is also the bassist of Rubber Souldiers, a
"Beatle jam band" with Chris Rowan, Lorin Rowan, and me. Rubber Souldiers
play the Iron Springs brew pub in Fairfax CA Wednesday, July 23. (The one gig
Paul couldn't do, we had the best of all possible ringers for this band:
Ratdog bassist Robin Sylvester.)

I've got a great new generic tour poster (see
http://cloudsurfing.gdhour.com/?p=873) by Roy Schneider, a Florida singer-
songwriter who recently retired his daily comic strip "The Humble Stumble."
Roy's new CD is Roy Schneider and the Roadside Turtle Rescue. See
http://www.royschneider.com

The summer festival season is about to commence. I'll be filling in some
dates here and there with club gigs - the latest is always posted at
http://www.dgans.com/gigs.html

I am planning house concerts in Tallahassee and Atlanta the weekend before
MagnoliaFest; details will be posted soon. I'm always on the lookout for
house concert opportunities - see http://www.concertsinyourhome.com for
information on this excellent development. House concerts are much better for
the music than a lot of other venues guys like me play. If you'd like to host
one, get in touch!

You'll also find PDFs of some gig posters linked on my gigs page; if you can
print 'em and post 'em I'd sure appreciate it. Also, please tell your friends
and colleagues about my performances. Word of mouth is everything in this
business.

The early part of the evening was a lot like work. The place was crowded,
and the music was not the reason why. An hour or so into my set, the
quotient of people interested in what I was doing improved tremendously. By
the time I was ready to stop after two solid hours, there were quite a few
who were not ready to let me go. So I played another half hour.

So the answer is, it went very well - eventually!
