Seasonal Total

Highlights of the Current Season - July 2000 - June 2001

We had a fairly normal summer. Only a few hot spells, each lasting less than a few days, in July and August. Average temperatures were in the mid 80's with low's in the 60's. We saw over 100 degrees in the shade in early July and early August, but for the most part, quite moderate and comfortable. A dramatic cold snap and one inch of rain started the month of September. The remnants of Hurricane Lane (is that like "tornado alley"?) entered our area on September 12th, bringing heavy clouds, sprinkles and high humidity. More heavy fog and clouds brought in the fall, with 1/2 inch of rain on Sept. 22. October was a record-breaker, with 7 inches in less than 30 days, and temperatures in the mid to low 40's.

Mid-November became increasingly colder, with snow flurries on the 10th, followed by more cold weather on the 13th, and highs only in the upper 30's. December brought a return to mild temperatures and little or no moisture. It was actually more like summer at this elevation late in December, with highs in the mid-70's, and lows only in the low 50's.

January began as a mild, summer-like month, but then turned cold and wet on January 8, with the first in a series of storms bringing heavy rain, followed by another series starting January 23. Rain, sleet, hail and snow flurries, along with freezing temperatures were the norm on the 25th. Freezing temperatures and snow returned on February 10th. Record snowfall occurred on February 12, along with sub-freezing temperatures. Heavy cold rain returned on Feb. 17th and continued through the next week. March was very dry, with only a few inches of rain, and mild temperatures. Rain and unseasonably cold temperatures returned in early April. On April 20th, a strong low pressure system brought over 2 inches of rain in less than 12 hours, and cold temperatures (mid-30's). By mid-May, temperatures were well into the 80's and 90's, with very low humidity. A rare warm summer rain with double rainbows arrived on June 25, followed by lower temperatures in the 50's and high humitity.

Season total (to June 27, 2001): 49.90 Inches
