Mark K Hendricks |
Bio
Hendricks
was born in Detroit, and grew up on radical labor and civil rights
politics; blues, jazz, soul, folk, rock; great lakes; and the Diego
Rivera dominated Detroit Institute of Art. He began oil painting at age
nine. Subsequently he earned degrees in fine art and psychology. During
the mid-seventies he arrived on the left coast from Ann Arbor Michigan.
In San Francisco, Hendricks was intimately involved with early
adaptation of innovations in public information, education, animation,
web technology, and user-centered design. He has resided in Oakland
since 1986, where he continues to work in visual media.
Since 1970 Hendricks has worked on his Six
Decades project; an ongoing series of
large-scale collages, each created at the end of the previous decade.
This interwoven series forms a complex personal statement of his time.
Together they draw a powerful line through a multi decade expanse of the
past into the future.
Hendricks animated a series of 7-minute 3D videos on economics
education. One video, "Spending
= Q x P,” is on the SIGGRAPH '92 Video Review
which is part of the UCLA Film Archives. He conceptualized and produced
an online rare American Currency Exhibit. Hendricks developed
interactive touch-screen kiosks. He art directed, designed, and
illustrated a number of award winning Publications.
Hendricks believes that as we become one with our images, our future and
past move closer together. He continues to explore these entry
points into understanding by mapping our evolving narratives. Hendricks
likes to watch light splash and catch it when he can.
