Not a nasal kitty, then? Hehe.

Don't look now, but isn't this Neil and Mary's 19th anniversary?

Neil -- Your vacation sounds wonderful. I'm very glad.

Hmm... I took a vacation once that involved sun and sand rather than
dust and mud. Maybe I ought to do it again someday....

They must have been People Who Talk Loudly in Comic Stores.

Hmm... by "the last Wednesday in March," I guess that means the last
_day_ in March as well. Two more weeks.

I hope it has a good recap section.

You don't need a good recap section - you've got 2 weeks to re-read
the first 7 issues!

Interesting about the buttons. Elevator close door button especially.
I used to work in the leasing office of a building and would chat with
the elevator guys who came to fix the elevators from time to time.
Although the close door doesn't work, you CAN get the door to close
faster if you repunch your floor button. He explained it like this: The
elevator doors are programmed to shut after X seconds. Usually about 7
seconds, after the last person went through the eye in the door. BUT
if you repunch your floor button right after the last person goes
through the door, it breaks the 7 seconds and starts closing the door
immediately after punching the button again. Thus saving you a second
or two or three. Up until he told me this, it used to annoy me that
people would impatiently stand and punch the buttons over and over.
Well, it still does but at least I now know that it actually DOES
something.

Unless he was ly--- um, making it up.

I didn't read the article yet because I didn't feel like registering,
but I have ALWAYS had my suspicions about the "push to cross streets"
buttons.

The "push to cross streets" button's functionality depends on your
location.

Some do nothing. However, I know of at least one corner where the
button does make the walk light go on the next time the traffic light
is green. If you don't push it, the walk light will never display.

I THINK this is true of the intersection near my building. It's a very
busy crosswalk section and if we patiently stand there, the WALK light
never comes on. But if we punch the button, it does. Still never gives
us enough time to actually cross all the way across the street unless
we're sprinting and we're often caught on the median halfway.

Am in The Journal. Feel slightly giddy.

Thea Gilmore is amazing. She has a faboo voice, and the vocal blend
with her producer/guitarist/plastic-harmonica-thingy player is a. maze.
ing. There were only 32 people at the gig, so I told Neil I saw the
Thea equivalent of his "Tori-in-London-bar-with-5-people" gig.

Am apparently mad for hyphens. Or possibly just mad.

Go see her, if she's going to be anywhere near you. Buy a CD. Hang
out & talk to her & Nigel & Jim. She's way cool. And even better live
than on CD.

And now money that has yet to be earned will be spent on Thea CDs.
Oh, well, I own all of Pratchett & Gaiman's books.

Have had 4 hours of sleep, so I think I'd better go home & crash
before things get *really* peyote-like. Who needs drugs when you have
sleep deprivation?

Dodge - I had seen that before, and it just gets funnier (and
scarier). When I went to see Berlin and the Psych. Furs last week,
Terri made a point of taking a stand in favour of gay marriages. It was
pretty amazing how loud the screams of support were in someplace as
small as the Great American Music Hall (not that it's that small, just
that small for a crowd noise *that big*).

Mary - Yay! Blog entry goodness! And there are worse things to go into
debt over.

tinymonster - You nearly had me very confused. I see mentions to
anything with 'black' and 'rock' and I assume Burning Man... :)

Good for you! :D

Next weekend is peak bloom for the cherry blossoms in DC
(http://www.nps.gov/nacc/cherry/). I think it also coincides with the
opening of the festival, for once. I hope the weather will be nice.

Neil (and everyone else), if you haven't been to DC at this time of
year, you'll just have to come sometime. Between the cherry blossoms,
forsythia, dogwood, crepe myrtle, etc., it's like our own pastel
autumn. And it lasts for such a short time....

But I am extremely jealous of Neil for being in a Guinness brewery.

I noticed, yesterday, that the forsythias in our backyard bloomed
right when I wasn't looking. It always happens that way; one day
they'll be dead, and the next, well, the sides of the whole yard are
just golden bursting.
I wrote a short story once called "For Cynthia", about an intense,
lovely, very brief relationship. I seem to fall into those often,
dunno why, they just kinda happen.

I woke up yesterday morning, traipsed up the stairs with my glasses
on, only semi-coherent, and I noticed those flowers out our sliding
glass door. It was a beautiful morning, if a bit brisk, but even just
seeing those flowers, well, I know better times are on the way. They
may not be here yet, no, it might be cold out, even, tomorrow might be
grey and bleak and dreary.
But it always feels like winter is deep and comfortable and not going
anywhere, and then, suddenly, it's the second week of spring. Calvin
once said the funny thing about life is that, no matter how bad it
gets, it can always get worse, but he also said that he wasn't
satisfied with happiness, he demanded euphoria.

Life is sweet, and good, and warming. I am happy. Everything lasts a
very short time, if you consider it, but that doesn't mean that this
moment can't last as long as you'll let it. In this moment is your
life.

Erk, I was very disappointed to have a loverly spring day yesterday
(when I couldn't really enjoy it due to family obligations) fizzle out
on me today into bitter ick (when I had plenty of time to enjoy it).
grr. Naturally, since I have to work all day tomorrow, it will be nice
again. ;)

And then I very nearly passed out while having blood drawn for silly
tests. Note to self; 'no, it really is better to eat *before* the dr's
appt'.

But now I'm back at home playing "squish the kitty" with Thing e (it's
really an attempt at exorcism, as she's utterly possessed), which is
much more fun.

Everything's fine. Kitty is well and goodly 'squished' (though still a
bit possessed... which is probably the way it should be), and very
nearly all the invitations got mailed out.

Tomorrow I get to go visit with the 'cake' lady and see if I can
convince her that stripes on a cake are necessary. :)
