Methamphetamine and Cocaine Treatment Guidelines Released
The Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) recently released "Treatment for Stimulant Use Disorders", which is number 33 in CSAT's Treatment Improvement Protocol (TIP) Series. The guidelines, developed by a panel of non-Federal experts, provide treatment strategies that have been scientifically validated as effective in treating people with stimulant use disorders. The TIP provides clinicians and "front line" treatment providers an overview of the latest knowledge about stimulants, describes treatment approaches that are appropriate and effective for stimulant abusers, and makes specific recommendation on the practical application of treatment strategies. Also included in the TIP are 44 client worksheets and nine screening tests for cognitive impairment to assist providers in treating people with stimulant use disorders.
